Nearly A Week?!?
Noticed that it has been just over a week since the last updated was given on the blog! Several busy evenings and nights at work with the scattered thunderstorms last week, then a few days of relaxing followed by more work and time with some family and friends that are in town have filled up the schedule well. Nonetheless, figured I would try and get one quick update in while I found the time…
Thunderstorms last week were mediocre at best for most occasions, despite instability and some marginal shear the ability for the organization of storms in/near the Kansas City Metro was disappointing. But, seeing as I had to work for those events I can’t say that I was terribly disappointed by that outcome. My wife did manage to grab some images of the storms and the lightning with her point-and-shoot camera (perhaps I’ll share later). I’ve meant to get more involved with the photography, but just haven’t found much time to do so thus far. I hope with a little less hectic work environment and more relaxing time at home will accomplish that task I set forth a while ago.
Additional thunderstorms developed on Monday (July 26) across mainly the Missouri side of the Metro. Scattered thunderstorms occurred across much of Missouri today with widespread instability and little inhibition. Once one storm fired, additional storms soon fired off of the outflow boundaries from the initial storm and the domino effect continued through much of the afternoon and into the evening. A very nice cumulus field and towers were viewable this afternoon, of course once again I didn’t really gather the time to grab any images of such an occurrence. These pop-up thunderstorms will be present once again across Missouri on Tuesday (July 27), but mainly for the southeastern half of the state.
The next potential for ‘organized’ thunderstorms will come Wednesday night and continuing into the weekend as another frontal boundary pushes southward into Missouri. The boundary will likely stall, and with a continued over-running of warm and moist air we’ll see several thunderstorm complexes evolve over the Plains. The timing and placing of these complexes is well in the air based on current models, however the pattern recognition is there thus the idea that the chances of showers and thunderstorms are warranted. The severe weather threat will once again be limited by the meager wind shear values this far south, but a few wind gusts will definitely not be ruled out. I once again will be working evening throughout the weekdays until the weekend, so here is to hoping a few weekend thunderstorms can occur as well for some lightning photography.
In the meantime, enjoyed an afternoon on Monday at Worlds of Fun here in Kansas City and will check out the Kansas City Zoo on Tuesday. Perhaps a few pictures from the zoo will be necessary with one of the next updates? Finally a visit to Kauffman Stadium to watch the Twins and Royals, hoping to get a game at least half as good as the Monday game where the Twins overwhelmed the Royals, 19-1.
